Buy me that neon jacket. I need it to fit in. Fit my feet with airwalk shoes and my legs with baggy pants. I want my Vision Street Wear t-shirt and Primus cassettes. I need the latest skateboard deck and while I practice the latest tricks for the applause of others. Could I ever be as cool as Tony Hawk?

Give me something to believe in.

Headphones blasting out the latest Nirvana Album. Flannel shirts, Doc Martin’s and a second-hand wardrobe. Long hair, alternative friends, pierced ears, and tattoos. Crowd surfing for hours on end. Am I in the end crowd, or part of the latest trend?

Give me something to believe in.

Snowboarding, 40’s of Mickey’s, turntables, the greenest bud. Tons of friends, but I don’t know anyone’s name. All night parties and hazy mornings. Died hair, baggy jeans, and headphones. Why do I feel so alone?

Give me something to believe in.

Emptiness, soul searching, craving for something new. The real world shows it fangs. The Venus fly trap about to unhinge its wrath. Could there be more than this?

Give me something to believe in.

Long blonde hair. Crystal blue eyes. Conversation to stimulate the mind. Love. Could this be? Loosing myself in the embrace of pure emotion. Still strangely incomplete.

Give me something to believe in.

Running away has brought me back home. The church doors seem so heavy. Songs of praise reach into my very soul and rekindle a flame long hindered by a search for outside meaning and acceptance. Human love has brought me back to my first love. The true nakedness without judgmental prejudice.

Give me something to believe in.

This is real. More than a belief, but a recovered part of my very being. Like the final piece to a puzzle, it is the perfect fit. The one piece that makes all the others make sense. The vast array of colors are brought together by the one who becomes ‘identity’. Embrace.

Someone who believes in—me.

As I go through this life, searching and groaning for acceptance, let the peace that comes from knowing you Lord, and the past lessons of a broken world always bring me home. Help me be a light to others that are looking for something to believe in. You help it all make sense.

You are my Rock.
